After settling into your daily routines, it's hard to make dating your spouse a priority. And, if you two have children, it can be especially hard to fit date nights into your schedule and budget. But don't worry — here are 11 fun dates you and your honey can do together that won't cost a dime:
If you live near any type of park with a body of water, chances are there will be ducks swimming around. Take some bread or crackers (some parks even supply bird-friendly feed) and feed the ducks together. It's fun, easy and always results in some good memories.
Many communities show movies in the park during the summertime. It's free, and it's more fun snuggling up and watching a movie under the stars than under your own ceiling.
You know you made these all the time when you were a kid — just because you've grown up since then doesn't mean these forts are any less fun. Build a cozy fort with your honey, snuggle up together and listen to a book on tape.
One of my favorite games to play on a spontaneous date is blind GPS. Here's how you play: Whoever is sitting in the passenger seat wears a blindfold. Every time the driver comes to a split in the road, they tell the passenger to pick which way they should turn. You two drive for however long you want — don't be afraid to get totally lost! This is a fun way to find new places and do some exploring.
Most community art galleries are free and always spark up some good conversation. You can admire some great (and maybe not so great) works of art together for a fun and sophisticated date night. For more fun, create dramatic stories about each art piece and spend the whole night laughing with your darling.
I'm a big animal lover, so this kind of date is a favorite. Volunteer your time to play with the animals there and leave feeling like you made a difference in the life of those sweet pets.
Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt for adults — it's simple, free and a great conversation starter. Start easy and work your way up to more difficult finds (you can choose the level of difficulty online) and let your GPS guide you and your honey to different cache locations.
This is so much fun. You don't even need to buy the official game of Twister to play. Just simply use an old, plastic shower curtain and pour pools of paint to mimic the design of the Twister mat. Then, make your own spinner and you're good to go. Twister is fun enough as it is, but adding paint to it makes this game ridiculously fun.
Dress up in your nicest clothes and tour around some fancy car dealerships. Take your dream car out for a test drive and enjoy the ride.
Go to the busiest place you know and make your own Bingo cards with things like "couple on an awkward first date" and "person struggling to walk excitable dog" in the squares.
Go to a thrift store or second-hand shop and pick out the most outrageous outfits you can find for each other. Wear the outfit your spouse has picked out for you and have a fashion show down the aisles of the store.
It can be hard sometimes to get creative with your date nights when you don't want to spend too much money. What are some fun things you and your sweetheart like to do together for free?
