"Saturdays at Sea" is the fifth and final installment in the Tuesdays at the Castle series by New York Times best-selling Jessica Day George.
The Glower family, minus the king and Bran, travel to the seaside kingdom of Grath to meet the family of Lulath, Lilah's betrothed prince. While there, they train their griffins and finish construction on their family ship: the Golden Griffin. The ship is a small cure for their homesickness because it is made up of parts of their magical castle home.
When the ship is finished, Celie and Lilah want to go in search of an ancient island said to be the home of unicorns, and when the ship has a mind of its own and steers them off course, they hope that's where it's taking them. Soon, it seems like the ship isn't taking them anywhere and the royal family and their many pets are growing tired and hungry.
The discovery of a portal to a hidden land leads to adventure and more magic for the Glower family. They will have to overcome their share of obstacles to not only make it back to Grath but also hopefully return to the castle for good.
George brings back the charm of the previous installments with this quirky royal family and their never-ending supply of adorable pets. The new characters introduced in "Saturdays at Sea" fit in nicely with the original cast and are a fun addition.
Part of the magic of the series is in the castle itself, so including that in a fresh way by taking the magic to sea is a clever way to keep readers comfortable and engaged.
George wraps up the storyline neatly and allows her characters to experience their final growth spurt to conclude this beloved and magical series.
"Saturdays at Sea" doesn't include any violence, swearing or sexual content.
